Chemical and Plastics Industry
The Cincinnati region is a leader in the chemical and plastics industry, with corporations manufacturing everything from pharmaceuticals to food flavorings to plastics and rubber products. One of the largest ABS and SAN plastics manufacturing companies in North America, LANXESS, has been located in Cincinnati since the 1950s. Proctor & Gamble, Avon, and KAO are among the many companies that manufacture soaps, cleaners, and cosmetics in the area. Cincinnati is also a center for the manufacture of paints, coatings, resins, and adhesives, with branches for manufacturing and distribution from three of the world’s top ink manufacturers.

Aviation and Aerospace
Ohio’s aerospace corridor flows between the birthplace of flight in Dayton and Cincinnati, where one of the leading producers of jet engines, GE Aviation, is located. The Cincinnati-Dayton corridor has more than 400 aerospace and support businesses, producing aircraft, instruments, engines, and parts. Five of the nation’s top universities for Aerospace Engineering are within 200 miles of Cincinnati, supporting aerospace research, development, and manufacturing in the region.
Life Sciences / Biotechnology
With more than 200 businesses involved in the research, testing, and production of medical, pharmaceutical, and agricultural products calling Cincinnati home, the area has become an excellent location for life science and biotechnology companies. There are extensive research and development facilities in the area, including the University of Cincinnati Medical Center and the Genome Research Institute (GRI). Also a leader in pediatrics, the area is home to Cincinnati Children’s Hospital, which has the largest pediatric research program in the Midwest region. Children’s studies everything from gene regulation to cancer biology, to cardiovascular development.
